Did you know that the skin around your eyes is much different than the rest of your face? The area around the eyes is more delicate and thin and oftentimes much more sensitive, even to your regular face cream. In addition, there are no oil glands around your eyes, therefore they depend on the moisture that you are providing them. That being said, special care should be taken to treat them.
Another reason that the area surrounding your eyes may need extra TLC, while you might wish it weren’t so, is that the skin around your eyes often shows the earliest signs of premature aging, particularly without proper care. Our eyes work a lot throughout the day, blinking, expressing emotions and squinting, this alone can cause premature aging. But, we also contribute to puffiness and dark circles in many other ways. Poor diet, including too much sodium, alcohol, and caffeine intake contributes to dehydration, which in turn, leads to dark circles and puffiness. The skin around your eyes is thin and when we are dehydrated, the blood vessels appear more prominent, resulting in discoloration of the under the eyes. This is also true of not getting enough beauty rest! Poor sleep and even allergies cause the vessels under the eye to dilate and become more prominent, creating a dark cast. Ultraviolet rays, external stressors, not drinking enough water (or drinking one too many cocktails), and not getting enough sleep can all make the skin around the eyes appear to age more quickly, resulting in dark circles, puffy eyes, and lines, and wrinkles.
Caring for the eyes doesn’t have to be tricky. For starters, choose an eye cream that is formulated to treat the sensitive areas around the eyes. Look for one that contains simple, preferably natural ingredients that are known to be gentle but also target skin affected by signs of aging, such as the antioxidants, Vitamin E, Vitamin C or Green Tea. Also look for eye creams rich in moisturizers such as Grapeseed, Almond, or Jojoba Oil and calming ingredients such as Lavender or soothing Primrose Oil. One to try is Perfectly Natural Soap’s gentle, rejuvenating Glow Natural Eye Cream. It is richly moisturizing, containing Grape Seed Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, and the antioxidant, Vitamin E.
For puffiness around eyes, Perfectly Natural Soap also makes a Cucumber Soothing Eye Gel. Made not only with Cucumbers but with soothing Aloe and the powerful antioxidant, Cranberry Seed Oil, this eye gel will instantly soothe tired, puffy eyes with its cooling effect!
